Scenario Language for Automatic News Recomposition on The News - on - Demand KAMAHARA

In this paper, we propose a new scenario description language for analysis and synthesis of the TV news program. The proposed language is used for the advanced news system where a news program is distributed in the form of a collection of news items rather than a complete xed program. For the synthesis, we rst analyze a news program by its video, audio and text segments, decompose it into chunks of news items, and store them into the news database. Then, the system synthesizes a new news program from the collection of news items for the user's preference. The synthesis of news is speciied by the proposed scenario language which is exible enough to describe what kinds of scenes are used and how they are composed of. To support dynamic synthesis of news, constraints in terms of presentation time are eeectively speciied in the proposed language. A unit of the time constraint is called a media slot which can be nested in a hierarchy. Using the proposed language, We develop two diier-ent t ypes of applications, one is called Digest which supports short browsing of a collection of news and the other is called parallel news which contrasts different news items broadcasted from diierent companies .
